The Smell of Snowflakes

0
It's coming. I can feel it. I don't like it.

I can barely contain my excitement!

I'm not quite sure what to expect from St. George, but winter is coming. Reports of snow plaster my Facebook wall. Some in celebration, and some in horror as the white flakes quilt a frosty blanket across their lawns. Oh Northen weather, I don't miss you at all. Getting ready to visit for Thanksgiving Break, and I'm not sure how well I'll handle the situation...

This is how it should be.
I don't know about you but I feel like there's more freedom in the Summer. You don't have to wear shoes and you can just kick back and relax outside by the pool. The sun is warm and comforting, and you can enjoy a picnic with friends or a solitary nap under a tree. Summer is calm and inviting, filling endless days with laughter.

Winter, on the other hand, is a cold bitter beast. You must protect yourself from her assault in layers of clothing. She also has quite the record. Numerous car accidents, injuries, and even deaths can be blamed on this white witch. She offers the comfort of Christmas as a mere consolation prize.
Poor Green Grass

I miss this type of snow (cotton trees)
I miss Summer.

Last Thanksgiving break was an adventure. I had a lot of fun spending time with some of my closest friends. I can only hope that this Thanksgiving will be even better!

Splattered Thoughts.

DOVER BEACH
By Matthew Arnold

The sea is calm tonight,
The tide is full, the moon lies fair
Upon the straits; on the French coast the light
Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand,
Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay.
Come to the window, sweet is the night air!
Only, from the long line of spray
Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,
Listen! you hear the grating roar
Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling,
At their return, up the high strand,
Begin, and cease, and then again begin,
With tremulous cadence slow, and bring
The eternal note of sadness in.

Sophocles long ago
Heard it on the Agean, and it brought
Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow
Of human misery; we
Find also in the sound a thought,
Hearing it by this distant northern sea.

The Sea of Faith
Was once, too, at the full, and round earth's shore
Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled.
But now I only hear
Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,
Retreating, to the breath
Of the night wind, down the vast edges drear
And naked shingles of the world.

Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.

This poem makes me think about a lot of things.
Maybe it will get your gears turning as well...
Thought's are important. Even if they're just splatters.

Shark Infested Water

0
Oh hey there! It's kinda been a while since my last actual blog post. Needless to say a lot has happened between then and now. I don't know how much of it I can successfully recap, but I'll do my best to pick out the highlights of the last week or so. Winding back the hands of time is a daunting task, so bear with me here...Where to start?

10:23 am. The boy wakes up to voices in the hall behind his bedroom wall. Voices that anxiously spew gibberish about camping and smelly smoke hair. Women. Annoyed, he lays there trying to shut out the voices. Why are they here so early? He knew he shouldn't let it irritate him, but it did. He was sleep deprived. That was why it annoyed him. Yeah, that had to be the reason. Squeezing his eyes shut, tighter then necessary, he twisted his torso and buried himself in the pillow. Just go back to sleep. Just sleep...

His mind rolls back to last week, replaying significant scenarios in a weak attempt to sooth...

It's Friday, October 29. Classes are over, and it's finally the weekend! The boy is excited. This weekend was going to be crazy! Halloween weekend! He had successfully plowed through his research paper, and was regaining his health. No more nauseating headaches. Things we're looking good. Relieved to put the stresses of the last week behind him, he quickly walks across the campus lawn towards his apartment. There's so much to get done before tonight. Not really, but it feels like it. He jumps in his car and starts the engine. Seatbelt click. Reverse. Stop. Forward. Drive. Accelerate. Turn the wheel. Red light. Turn. Green light. Green light. Blink. Blink. Blink. Turn. Park. Get out and lock the doors. Entering Target, he heads towards the back corner. He knows exactly where he's going. After all, he was just here last night with the Cedar City Crew. They had been looking for costumes. And so was he. He had decided what he was going to be. A Ghost Buster. Yellow jumpsuit complete with the Ghost Busters logo, and an inflatable ghostpack. The pack sealed the deal.

New plan of action: Start Fresh.
I've come to the conclusion that there's too much to recap, so I'm not going to do it. If you're really dying to know about my life and recent events, ask me in person. Other then that, I don't care. Out with the old and in with the new, right?... so here's my newest post.
Woa! So much has happened! I feel like I've finally recovered from my writer's block due to my massive research paper! Yes!

This weekend I drove down with my family to Queen Creek, Arizona for my cousin's wedding! My cousin Brian is only a year older than me, and it was pretty weird to see him getting married. We drove down thursday afternoon and went to dinner with everyone involved with the wedding. I got reacquainted with old family members that I haven't seen for a long time, and met some new ones as well. It was good to see everyone again. After dinner, everyone was tired and anxious for the following day, so most of us headed off for bed. I say MOST of us, because sadly, Brian wasn't as fortunate. I felt pretty bad for him when he explained to that he had to go to work after dinner and work all through the night! He was scheduled to work a shift helping to pour concrete for a building in Mesa? until 7 am the following day. That's pretty rough! Well the rest of us went to bed that night and woke up the next morning to get ready for the wedding. Brian slept pretty much the whole morning, but who can blame him?

Here's a picture of them^
The wedding was a huge success and Brian and his new wife looked so happy together. They danced a lot that night as we all celebrated with them. I hope the best for them and their future together. We cheered loudly as the drove off in his mustang. Destination: Honeymoon.

The next day was spent getting reacquainted with my cousins, second cousins, aunt, uncles, and other family. Turns out, a lot has happened since I last saw them and it was good to catch up. We slowly wandered through the morning and into the afternoon. All of my Arizona relatives are into desert racing, and my Uncle's neighbor brought over his SandRail. Sand what? A SandRail. It's kinda like a go-cart and dune buggy mashed together, then injected with a massive dose of steroids. It's awesome! Here's a visual:

So this guy drove it over to my uncle's house, and we took turns going for rides in this thing. He took us on the paved road and got it going over 130mph, then popped a freakin' wheelie! Adrenaline rush. My heart was beating so fast, and my face felt like it was going to peel right off my skull! It was incredible. And totally illegal. No sooner had the front tires hit the pavement before we got pulled over my a cop. The guy was pretty upset with us and started hounding the driver for driving on the road. I was certain that he would give the driver a ticket, but he got lucky! No ticket. The cop must not have seen the wheelie on the other side of the hill. Thankfully! After this incident, he took us to the back dirt roads. He was swerving all over the place and I thought we would roll for sure! We didn't, but it ended up being a crazy good time.

Later that night we had a fire and sat around telling jokes are roasting marshmallows. Funny things tend to happen when you get the Jackson clan around a fire. Let's just leave it at that. =) After it got later, My cousins and I packed up to spend another night my older cousin's (their older brother) house. Before we actually went to his house though, we stopped by the gas station and got some Monsters, then headed to another fire in Gilbert with some of their friends. It was kinda a flop because my cousin, Tara, and her boyfriend we're fighting so the whole situation was a bit awkward. Things got a lot better after we left and drove over to Jeremy's house.

Feeling wide awake from our energy drinks, Tara and I stayed up all night while everyone else went to sleep. We had a long talk about the future and what we thought it would be like, along with a lot of other random things. It seems like Tara and I always end up pulling all nighter's before we leave for home. The exact same thing happened earlier this year in the summer at Island Park. I enjoy the time I get to spend with my cousins and realize that the time we have left is limited, considering how all of our lives will be changing in the next few years.

Well 6 am rolled around and my mother came by to pick me up. I said goodbye and walked out the door. Just like that we were on our way back home. It felt like forever before we arrived in St. Geezy! It felt good to be home. I said goodbye to my family and watched them drive off. I felt bad that they had 5 more hours to go, and was glad that I didn't have to make that trip.

Upon arriving home, and unpacking my belongings, I discovered two crucial things missing: My Wallet and My Cell Phone Charger!! Just my luck. I quickly notified Tara, and they promised to ship them to me right away. Well... my cell phone is now dead, and I really am a poor college student. I have been checking the mail frequently and awaiting their arrival. I can't believe I left them behind! On the other hand, seperation from these things has allowed me to focus on other things such as Eva (my guitar), and writing letters and this blog.

Life feels slow but the livin's easy.
Happy in the sun, alive in St. Geezy!

(Yup that was pretty cheesy
